Hugo Bezdek, former Arkansas Razorback head coach, was a many of many talents. He was a head coach for universities as well as a professional football team. Bezdek even had as stint as Manager for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Bezdek would server as the Razorbacks head football coach from 1908-1912. Arkansas, the Cardinals at the time, would compile a 5-4 record under Bezdek his first year at the helm. The 1909 season Bezdeks team would improve to a 7-0 record and at a postseason pep-rally he stated his team “played like a band of wild razorback hogs.”

101 years later Sam Pittman steps in as head coach and Arkansas is playing tough football. After Saturdays win over Ole Miss it is apparent that not only are the Razorbacks a quality defense, but likely one of the best in the SEC. The Hogs held a Rebels offense that averaged 573 ypg and 41.7 ppg to 442 yards and 21 points. A feat that Alabama couldn’t accomplish. A big part of that is Pittman’s friend and Defensive Coordinator, Barry Odom. Odom brings back grit and tenacity to this Arkansas defense. They are always flying down hill and swarming the football. The defense disrupts quarterbacks and forces them to make bad decisions. This defense plays like a band of wild razorback hogs.
